HOTD for a local gig!

So this is how i'm wearing my hair tonight! i'm going to a local gig with a few friends to some acousticy electronic bands- should be fun!

Its just a really simple case of...
1.) Straighten you hair (don't forget heat protectant!)
2.) tie a silk scarf in your hair and position it where you want to!
3.) Tie your hair into a simple side ponytail
4.) Let the loose strands fall out round the sides of your face for "decoration"

Hope you enjoyed!

Beauty Look I'm Loving Right Now # 1

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to the first post in my "Looks i'm loving right now" series! There's no timescale for these (i.e one a week etc) but i thought it'd be fun to share with you guys any looks i create that i really like!

So the first one was inspired by missglamorazzi's latest video on youtube-
url here :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SE0sgDGO1Sw

and also by my lovely fellow blogger katt - http://flyawaywithmexoxo-mynewlife.blogspot.com/
Here's me being silly ^^^

So its a REALLY simple look! consisting of a classic green washed out lid (tip gained from the video) and a toned down berry lip (tip gained from katt-aka flyawaywithmexoxo)

1.) Place bare study paint pot by MAC all over your lid.
2.) Use an eyeshadow brush (i use a MAC 213 brush) to place a green shadow (i use Urban Decay's shadow in "Vert") over the lid up to and including the crease. The bare study acts as a lovely base for the shadow to stick to as well as toning down the colour to make it more wearable for everyday!
3.) Use a blending brush (i use a MAC 217) to blend out the harsh edges of the green.
4.) Use a liquid eyeliner (i use maybelline define a lash liquid eyeliner) do draw a THIN line on your upper lash line.
5.) Curl your lashes and apply your favourite mascara (i use bourjois maxi frange waterproof- mentioned in my July Favourites post!)
6.) Use an eyeliner (i LOVE to use Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner in "Zero") to line both your lower and upper waterlines.
7.) Take your lip colour (i used MAC "New York Apple" lipstick- a gorgeous berry frost) and place 2 dots of colour on your lower lip. Use your finger to blend the colour into the rest of your lip to make the lipstick wearable for everyday. Repeat with your upper lip!

Done

No make up?!

Ok so this post is going to be a bit more personal....

Do you guys ever leave the house without make up on? I couldn't.
I've come to the decision that i do hide behind make up a lot- not because i "slap it on" and change what i look like completely, but because i'm so ashamed of my skin and paranoid about my dark circles.
Let me tell you about my skin and why i have to hide behind foundation. I've always had good skin growing up- i never suffered with acne. but in around january of 2010 i started breaking out a lot more and now it won't ever really leave me alone. I feel a bit alienated because all of my friends' skin has improved and got past the spotty stage whereas mine has just reached it. i want to be able to leave the house fresh faced but it's just impossible.
Here's the second reason why. My skin has a LOT of scarring from spots. Even on the odd day where there's no spots around the corners of my mouth and chin (my problem areas) i still have to use foundation. I even once got to the point where i went out with just eye make up and no foundation to buy a fathers day present for my dad. Here we ran into a family friend (who's male and lacking in tact and subtlety) and he even said "i can tell you're stressed. Look at those zits!" When in reality all he was looking at was the scarring. which in all honesty has set me back even further.

I hope today that will all change.
Recently in the past month or so i have been getting closer to a certain boy and it looks like we may have a potential future. Due to circumstances beyond our control skype is the only way we can talk face to face. We tend to skype late at night. Yet last night he wanted to skype after i'd got ready for bed (i.e taken make up off and washed face) now i'd have been happy (ok fine not happy, but willing) to let him see me make up less but once i wash my face its all over. So last night he went on camera but i wouldn't. Now tonight i promised he could see me without make up (after i've taken it off but before i wash my face ofc)
This may not seem a big deal but given that i'm an only child whose parents have only recently given permission for boyfriends to stay over no guy has ever seen me without make up. And i'm a little nervous...

Sorry for the ramble but if i can't be honest here where can i be?

So what's your guys' opinion on going bare faced for a boy and going out in public? Are you like me? Help and comments appreciated!

Would you rather *Beauty Edition* Round 1

So this tag has been circulating the youtube beauty guru community. There are 2 rounds so i thought i'd keep them separate rather than just combining them so that you'll see round to later!

If you'd like to do this tag too feel free! I'd love to see your responses- but katt i'm particularly keen to see yours! :-)

So here we go :-)

1.Would you rather go out with messy hair and nice make-up or Nice hair and no make-up?

Messy hair and nice make up! I can't leave the house bare faced! Plus messy hair can look cute :-)

2.Would you rather shave your eyebrows or have your eyelashes fall out?

This one is quite tricky. Because i could easily stick false eyelashes on... but i'd have to go with shaving my eyebrows as i have a fringe that easily could cover up my no eyebrows!

3.Would you rather be forced to shop at only MAC or Sephora for the rest of your life?

Well we don't have a sephora in the UK so i don't know what i'm missing out on. If i'm still allowed to shop at other places like boots and john lewis then i'll take MAC over Sephora. But this may change after i visit Sephora in Dubai after this month!

4.Would you rather wear lipgloss/lipliner look or 80's perm?

I was struggling with this one until i tried out the lipgloss/liner look. I look like pete burns/ drag queen. So i'm going with the 80's perm. i'd flatten it under a hat anyway!

5.Would you rather leave the house with an obvious foundation line or overdone blush?

Hmmm... i guess overdone blush. With the colour i use it wouldn't look as bad and my cheeks are rosy anyways so people would be more likely to be accepting.

6.Would you rather wear MC Hammer pants or biker shorts in public?

After googling both i'm stuck. The MC hammer pants probably. They're more "in" right now

7.Would you rather have a bad orange-y spray tan or really weird tan lines that can't be covered?

Tan lines. The orange look scares me!

8.Would you rather have a bad haircut or bad hair color?

Erm.. a bad hair colour is easier to fix more quickly so if i don't have to keep it long (i.e longer than 24 hours) then i'll go for the colour. The cut i could just tie up but the colour i could fix with some dye in 10 mins!

9.Would you rather have youtube or twitter taken away forever?

Twitter! youtube is amazing!

10. Would you rather give up using makeup brushes or mascara?

if i'm allowed eyelash curlers then i'll give up mascara as the effect on me is similar enough! i couldn't put on foundation with my fingers or using sponges!

July Favourites!

Hi Guys,

Wow this month has flown by! i can't believe its been a month since exams ended! I'm having the best summer so far that i've ever had! Being able to drive makes it so easy to go wherever, whenever :-)

These are my July favourites! Just some products i've really appreciated using during July. I do have a couple more which i love enough to dedicate a whole post to which will follow later!

Bourjois Maxi Frange Waterproof Mascara in "Noir Volcanique"

I've had this mascara for a few years and though it probably needs to be thrown out i just can't bring myself to! It's honestly amazing- it might just be this individual one as the non-waterproof version is clumpy and crap but we shall see when i repurchase it- Not only does it give my lashes incredible definition and length but its really unique in its formula. On contact with water it stays put! Or at worst pieces flake off rather than run, which makes it easy to wipe off!

Vaseline Rosy Lips

I bought this from my work place a while ago when it first came out but only recently fell in love! It's very moisturising, cheap and gives a beautiful colour to my lips. In my opinion it is half way between a lip balm and a lip gloss (more pigmented and noticeable than a lip balm but not as sticky as gloss) I think it just enhances the natural colour of your lips rather than just adding colour of its own! I love that i can wear it during the day and night!

MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation in NW15

I bought this last year but had to switch away as it turned out to be the wrong colour and i also switched to MAC Studio Fix Fluid (which i have now switched away from FYI) but on returning a little tanned from my holiday to Greece i realised this now matches me perfectly so leapt upon the opportunity to use it again! For me its a little to heavy for every day whole face use so i use it as extra coverage on my problem areas where i have spots and blemishes i.e my T-zone. For the rest of my face i use my newest foundation love (blog post to follow) but the studio sculpt gives a flawless finish!

Barry M nail paint in 308 Pale Purple

As someone who is constantly changing nail colours its odd for me to stick to one but i've just always reached for this one during July. The formulation is thick with a great colour payoff! And its also really cheap! This is definitely my summer nail varnish- i mean it, my nails have been this colour all through july which for me is very rare! So into the favourites it must go!

Hope you enjoyed my first post in wayyy to long!
Much love

Back ground layout

Hi again,

I've gone back to my original boring back ground because the one i was using won't allow you to post comments :(

if anyone knows a good place to get a background let me know!

Thanks
xxx

END OF EXAMS and summer update!

Hi guys!

I officially finished my A levels yesterday and naturally went for cocktails with a few of my friends to celebrate!

So i'm free from school work until the winter (provided i get the grades for university of course!)
So i will be able to eventually put a lot more time into my blog but of course as this is my life i have yet another set of excuse as to why blog posts may be sparse during july!

1.) Tomorrow I'm having a belated 18th birthday party. So today and tomorrow i'm busy preparing for that (there's surprisingly a lot to do)
2.)The following day i'm going bridesmaid dress shopping with my cousin as i'm being a bridesmaid when she gets married next year!
3.) i have numerous errands to do in the following few days so that i'm completely sorted (my wardrobe needs a clear out etc) and ready for...
4.) 1 week from today i'm going to Greece for 12 days with one of my best friends (who lives in america and i've not seen for 2 years!) and her family.
5.) for the few days after we come back from Greece she is staying with me before going back to the U.S.A

and that pretty much takes us up to the end of july!
So those are my excuses out in the open!
I hope you're all doing well :-)

Hi guys,

It's been a while since I've posted. You may have guessed but i had a psychology exam this morning. Which involves learning around 80 studies and writing 8 essays in 1 hour 30 minutes. So i was pretty stressed out and didn't really have time to blog!

But my exam is over now and I hope it went well! Only 2 left! One on Friday and one on the following Wednesday! I do plan to disappear from blogging as the exams come up so please don't be offended! It's my dream to get into one of my universities so i'm just following that dream!

I actually got round to changing my background. What do you guys think? I love that it has a butterfly on it and it reminds of a summers day (the type of day i'll be having in exactly 9 days!)
I don't know if its the one i'll keep but for now i think it's cute :-)

Thank you for sticking by my blog even though i've been M.I.A and thank you Vivianna for being my newest follower!

Much love,

Clinique 3 Step Skin Care System review

Hi again!
This is my review for the system!

I'm sure if any of you watch youtube gurus online you'll have seen this before. A lot of the larger gurus swear by it.

It's a skin care system made up of a cleanser, exfoliator and moisturizer.
The system is available in 4 "levels" for differing skin types!
1.) Senesitive skin
2.) Combination dry/ normal skin
3.) Combination oily skin
4.) Oily skin

At my time of purchasing i would've said i had pretty good skin. I got the odd spot but it wasn't a problem.
After doing some research and watching reviews i was highly considering buying the system as most reviews claimed to clear up skin (and of course i greedily wanted to get rid of my few spots) but i wasn't fully convinced to go for it until my all time favorite guru, picturesquemakeup, revealed that she loved it as well. Well of course i was sold and skipped off down to Boots to buy a trial pack costing £20. I was matched by the lady as a level 2.
I used it religiously morning and night for a month (how long the tester kit lasted me) and my parents got me the full size cleanser and exfoliator at duty free and i bought a full size moisturizer myself) and i used the full sized bottles for another month, making 2 months total, and here are my thoughts on the products individually and as a whole.

1.) Liquid facial soap. I actually quite like this cleanser and would use it as a back up for if my current cleaner runs out (but won't be repurchasing it after its gone- its too pricey) Some people say its hard to lather and i do agree to a point but once you've got the technique it's easy! It even smells fairly pleasant.
2.) Exfoliator. What a load of crap this product is. They claim it to be a daily exfoliator, but its more like a toner. If it was marketed as a toner i'd be slightly more satisfied but as an exfoliator it does nothing. Nada. Now i can always tell how good an exfoliator is because of my skin. I get these tiny bumps- that you can feel but can't see- on my skin and have been told by a make up artist that its just dead skin and if i exfoliate it goes away. Now this it true because they've gone due to the exfoliator i use now. But with the clinique one it was awful! It also has a chemically smell. You know when you first smell something and you expect the smell to get stronger and it does? Thats how the clinique one smells to me except it doesn't get stronger- but still not pleasant!
3.) Moisturizing lotion- This once again is rubbish and made my skin really greasy. Lots of people rave about it but i hated it.

Overall: As a system that's supposed to work together i wasn't that impressed. Out of the 2 months i used it my skin was nice for about 2 days. I truly believe it's what's made my skin oily and spot-prone like it is now. I don't know why i didn't stop sooner, in the end it was my mum getting me some free samples of the skin care stuff i use now that got me to switch, but i was so convinced by all these youtubers that it was going to work for me like it did for them. All the reviews i saw/ read said it takes a month to kick in so i was lenient. But now that i've switched and my skin's getting better i can see that the Clinique 3 Step System is over priced, over rated and not worth it! (At least for my skin it isn't)

*OK rant over!*

Blog series "What do you think of...?" #1

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oW0rkrp2C-4

I don't know if you guys have seen this/ watch her videos but it really gets me thinking!

There are certain lines that stand out to me

1.) "when you say that someone's gay it makes me really mad" I find this completely true. When someone uses the word gay to describe a person or event i can't help but feel a bit on edge. I don't think its right to use words like that in this context. (don't be offended by the next few sentences- i'm just drawing comparisons) But it not right to say use words like "blonde" or "black" or "O.A.P" in the same way that people throw around the word "gay" like its an exception to the rule. what do you guys think?

2.) "life is more fun when words aren't a gun" yes. agreed. Well said Brittany Louise Taylor! Life is better when everyone is accepted for who they are.

Much love

Everyday silly mistakes!

I know this is a bit random, but i was wondering what silly little mistakes you guys make in everyday life? Like where you use the wrong thing, just little quirks! I hope its not just me that does stuff like this...

My examples are:
- Today i nearly sprayed deodorant in my hair instead of dry shampoo
- I often put shower gel in my hair instead of shampoo
- i have a friend who once put orange juice in a pasta sauce instead of milk! She's an awful cook! haha!

Much love!

-In your opinion, what is the BEST makeup line?
Erm.. probably MAC because they have at least a decent version of every type of product and an amazing colour range. but i also like maybelline and Barry M

Hi!

I just wanted some kind of feedback on what your favorite kind of blogs are to read and if there's anything you'd like to see from me?
Don't be scared to be honest- i like it :-)

Also i do plan to try and jazz up my blog a bit, but it may not be til summer (the old exams excuse again) as i'm not as tech savvy as i'd like to think. it'll take me a while to figure out!
I think Katt's page (flyawaywithmexoxo) looks amazing!

Letters To Juliet Film Review (spoiler free)

This evening i saw the film Letters To Juliet starring Amanda Seyfried, Vanessa Redgrave and Christopher Egan.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AmB8spntgg

To be honest the only thing i can say about it is that if you like the trailer and like chickflicks then you'll love this!

I used to watch the australian soap Home and Away religiously and Christopher played Nick in the soap. I quite liked him back in the day but boy has time treated him well! (my mum has me married off to him- which i have no objections to haha!) He is definitely wonderful eye candy! (it's like Joseph Gordon-Levitt's jump from 10 things i hate about you to 500 days of summer all over again!)

The film is truly wonderful. To be honest right now it's given me much more faith in true love. Cheesy as that is!

It also has a lovely soundtrack (just like 500 days of summer) It has a few cliches which is expected from any chickflick but the exchange between Sophie and Charlie (Amanda and Christopher) was enough to keep me amused and chuckling!

So yes if you're not put off by the trailer or skeptical about it then i'm pretty certain you'll like it!

Today

Today I had 2 A level exams, on the same day!

One was biology and one was history. Anyone who's ever done A levels will understand my pain! They're 2 COMPLETELY different subjects and so preparing and getting through this day was a tough slog! But i got through and think i was generally pleased with each exam!

But its over! And i have NO MORE HISTORY in the world ever!!! Most subjects you have 2/3 exams but there's only 1 for history A2 because the other half is coursework (which drove me insane) from here on my life gets easier. 3 exams left- subjects which i actually like! And i can start to do stuff and leave the house again- like today i went to the cinema with my mum!

2 weeks today i'll have my summer. I'll have officially finished senior school for good and can have a social life again!

It's scary and feels really grown up (i'm way to immature to leave senior school!) But i'm really just looking forward to finishing exams as i'm so sick of revising!

And hopefully now i'll have the time to do more blog posts!

About me...

Ok so before i start i just want to clear a few things up first. Some elements of my life definitely have stereotypes attached to them! Please don't judge. These things are part of my life. They don't completely define me as a person. Ok so here we go! :-)

I'm Becky and i'm 18 (wohoo!)
Currently taking final A level exams and then i plan to have the summer of my life!

I go to an all girls school, which i love with all my heart! I've been so lucky to go to the school that i go to. In my year there are about 100 girls, which you think would make it bitchy. But there's nothing like that. It's all about work, food, the occasional sing along and lots of chats, hugs and love- sounds soppy but its true. I truly believe there's no other place i could find where you can roll up to school in your pajamas, eat as much food as you want, be late to lessons and leave early and still pass your A levels, have a genuine friendship with your teachers and never want to leave. ever. 5pm on a friday and there's still plenty of people there! There's no place like 6th form :)

Outside of school i'm pretty much a standard teenage girl. I love dancing (badly), shopping, watching gurus on line and reading blogs and spending time doing anything and everything with my friends.

I'm a bit of a science lover- well as far as biology is concerned. I love the brain and can't wait to learn all about it at university! I find it fascinating that it carries out all of the processes that make us the same and yet makes us each have an individual character.

I'm really tall-like pretty much 6ft tall- i haven't measured my height in ages. I've had 2 jobs so far. I spent 2 years teaching children to swim and helping out in their lessons and lifeguarding etc. And I currently work in a pharmacy- and have done for the past 2 3/4 years. Its a fun place to be as i work there with school friends and theres always tea and food. I live with my parents and my dog Harvey.

I guess that might be all the general info covered. There must be some question tags that i might look into doing if you want!

A quick update

Hi there :-)

I've decided that i want to write about other things in my life on here rather than just the beauty stuff- should've named my blog butterflies and beauty!

Although watching gurus online and reading their blogs is a big part of how i procrastinate its not the only thing that i do or think about so i don't want to confine myself to one genre. There's much more to me than that. I also want this to be an outlet for myself where i can write about whatever is on my mind.

So don't be surprised if my blogs are mixed between make up, hair and skin etc or something more random like holidays or worries etc!

I'll write more detailed blog posts as of tomorrow when my worst day of exams is out the way!

I'd also like to thank flyawaywithme for being my first blog follower- anyone reading this should go read her blog! :-)

That's all for now, back to the revision world of dead people and photosynthesis!
Lots of love,
Becky xxx

Coming soon...

Hi everyone,
Thanks for stopping by my blog.
I'm new to blogging so you may have to bear with me- and i'm also in the middle of exams which finish in 2 weeks! (I CAN'T WAIT!) so you may have to bear with me some more! But regular posts will follow during the summer!

I'm just another girl who loves all things beauty! I'm a little bit addicted to beauty bloggers and vloggers so thought i'd add my opinion to the mix!

If i get good feedback from you on here i may think about branching out into vlogging but for now i'm getting to grips with blogspot!

If there's anything you'd like to know or request then feel free to leave a comment or message.
Current plans for future blogs are:
-About me
-Clinique 3 step skin care system review
-My hair care holy grail products
plus a few others.
